Keystone XL approval is wrong direction

VICTORY: ATLANTIC COAST PROTECTED FROM OFFSHORE DRILLING
The Atlantic Coast won a major victory when the Obama administration abandoned its plans to open the southern Atlantic to offshore oil and gas drilling for the first time in decades. Leading up to the announcement, Environment America and colleagues presented Obama officials with letters signed by more than 1,000 East Coast businesses opposed to the drilling proposal.

You’re building support to save the bees.
Millions of bees are dying off, with alarming consequences for our environment and our food supply. In 2015, we mobilized grassroots support for protecting these vital pollinators. Thanks to your support, our national team and a coalition of beekeepers, farmers and others delivered more than 4 million petitions calling on the Obama administration to declare a ban on neonicotinoids, a class of bee-killing pesticides.

We're protecting the Cape.
The Cape Cod National Seashore protects 40 miles of the Cape’s most scenic beaches as well as our coastal wildlife. Yet reckless members of Congress have slashed funding for the National Seashore and even shut it down last fall. In 2013, we called on our congressional delegation to restore funding for the National Seashore and all our parks. And toward that end, we helped enlist Sens. Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren as the cosponsors of a bill to permanently endow the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

We're keeping fracking out of the Bay State.
We’ve seen fracking affect the health and environment of communities in other states. That’s why we want to keep it from threatening Massachusetts—especially the Connecticut River watershed and the family farms and small towns of the Pioneer Valley, where there could be shale gas deposits. In 2013, a key legislative committee approved a bill that would declare a 10-year moratorium on fracking, after we delivered petitions signed by more than 11,000 Bay Staters.

We're helping Massachusetts go solar.
Our state’s most successful solar program just keeps getting bigger — and you helped make it happen. Since we first helped win the program in 2007, we’ve seen a 100-fold increase in solar power in Massachusetts. And after we talked to 85,000 Bay Staters, and more than 17,000 people signed petitions and emailed their representatives at the State House, your support helped us win a significant expansion of the program and set a new goal for solar in our state — more than six times the current installed capacity by 2020.

We're tackling global warming pollution.
Together with our national federation, we’ve made hard-won progress in the race to protect our children from the worst consequences of global warming. This past June, after more than 3 million Americans urged President Obama to act on climate, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed a rule to limit carbon pollution from power plants — the single largest source of global warming pollution. We’ll keep tackling global warming with you at our side.

We've secured monumental clean car standards.
On July 29th, 2011, President Obama announced the outline of new clean car standards covering cars and light trucks through 2025. The new standards will require new cars to achieve a fleet average of 54.5 miles per galllon, which will amount to the single biggest step this country has ever taken to end our addiction to oil and tackle global warming. Thousands of our members helped seal the deal by emailing the White House and attending EPA hearings in support of the standards.

We're restoring Clean Water Act protections.
Alongside our national federation, more than 250,000 Americans, including many Bay Staters, called on the EPA to close loopholes in the Clean Water Act at our urging. In 2014, they answered by proposing a rule to restore protections to the more than 20 million acres of wetlands, 60% of streams, and drinking water for 117 million Americans. With your support, we’ll see this critical safeguard over the finish line and secure the biggest clean water victory in more than a decade.
